Newsletter 1: 2016/2017 SEASON

Dear Parents & Members

We trust you are all having a good winter’s rest and looking forward to the upcoming holidays following the present exams!

Arrangements are already underway for what we hope will be another positive cricket season for our YOUTHS - and PARENTS. Just some brief announcements/news from the Club’s side:

1)    Registration for 2016/2017 season (by e-mail and EFT): this process will commence earlier than usual in beginning July for existing members. We have brought the eft/email registration forward in order to ensure that we have adequate cash flow for meeting the anticipated costs to complete our new practice nets -  and that these will then be ready early ahead of season (in the month of September). We then will be able to derive the most benefit of this fantastic and much needed improvement and which will benefit the Club immensely.

2)    Registration Evening and Clothing Sales: A registration evening at the club on Wednesday 21 September 2016 at the Clubhouse from 5pm till 8pm. We hope to then have all clothing available in stock for sale.

3)    October holiday tours:  6 teams (5 x u13/12 and 1 x u11) will be touring playing in tournaments in Worcester (2-5 Oct), Mosselbay (6-8 Oct) and Somerset West (6-8 Oct). We are in the process of confirming availability of members and to finalise teams. Tours are not only great fun, but greatly assist in developing our cricketers, especially giving them a good lead into the cricket season bearing in mind there are fewer matches in the 4th term due to exams.

4)    Practices and Matches: Our Season opening function, early season practices and the commencement dates for any matches will be advised at a later stage, but this is generally towards the end of September.

5)    Sponsors and Donors: The COCT has very limited available funds available to assist Clubs and to meet expenses, and it is apparent that the Club itself needs to be pro-active and explore all avenues to obtain funding for necessary improvements etc. We therefor appeal to all individuals and associated/affiliated companies and/or businesses to try and assist where possible with sponsorship/donations/fundraising proposals. Please e-mail me directly with any possibilities for this. We would like to thank Leapfrog Durbanville for their continued support, and we again attach the details of their sponsorship together with their latest newsletter. Please support our Sponsor in any of your property dealings if possible, since Leapfrog have committed a residual sponsorship benefit for the Club in any income generated by them via the Club!

6)    Fundraising Events: Last season’s proposed Mashie Course Golf Day did not take place and which was proposed to replace the previous year’s Raffle. It is proposed that we re-instate the Raffle and sell tickets during the season with the draw in March 2017. Notices will follow closer to season commencement.

7)    Parent Coaches and Managers:Parent involvement in assisting with coaching, management within the guidelines of our policies and objectives is vital and of crucial importance for our continued development and growth as a Club. Parents wishing to become involved in any way (eg. umpires, scorers, coaching) are welcome to e-mail me in this regard or advise their Co-ordinators. It certainly is an enriching experience working with our youths!

8)    Transition to Hardball (qualified u8’s and u9’s) – some changes: Following a further assessment of the past season, it has been decided to include our u8’s into the Transition tier/arrangement as an intermediate progression from Mini Cricket to u10 Hardball Cricket moving forward. It was felt that many of our advanced mini-cricketers struggle to meet competitive opponents at the Mini Cricket Festivals which we participate in, and there is a tendency to advance youths at an earlier stage to play hardball prior to joining the u10 ranks. We shall therefor be looking to have all u8’s and all u9’s form the “Transition Group” .This Transition Group will participate in internal hardball matches on Wednesdays – and which will take place over and above the practices on Fridays. Ad-hoc matches may also then be arranged later in the season as well on Saturdays. These Wednesday matches will serve as the basis for assessment and promoting available transition players to u10 matches on Saturdays – and for when teams may be short. We believe the above will be beneficial to the general development of our youths, and also ensure that we always should be in a position to fill all teams for fixtures.

9)    Upcoming Holiday Clinics: Please see the attached details should you wish to have your son(s) participate. The Clinics are extremely beneficial for the players

10)  AGM: We again attach the full details of the Club’s AGM held in March at season’s end.
